Engineer – Secondary Technology, Substations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Manage tenders from transmission system operators (TSOs) related to protection and secondary systems in high- and extra-high-voltage substations.

• Design and size protection systems for installations at 220 kV and 380 kV, ensuring compliance with standards and operational safety.

• Develop protection strategies including distance protection, differential protection, and breaker-failure logic.

• Configure protection relays such as Siemens SIPROTEC (for example, 7SA6, 7SD6) and establish consistent device configurations.

• Conduct technical discussions and coordinate efforts with TSOs, planners, clients, and internal expert departments.

• Prepare protection diagrams, logic matrices, deviation lists, and technical specifications.

• Create and review Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) plans for factory and commissioning assessments.

• Oversee protection tests and assist with fault analysis and commissioning processes.

⛳️ Requirements

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.

• Experience with protection relays such as Siemens SIPROTEC (7SA6, 7SD6, 7UT6, 7SJ6), ABB RELION, or GE MiCOM.

• Proficient in planning software like ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, or PSS/E.

• Capable of configuring protection devices using DIGSI 5/6 or ABB PCM600.

• Familiarity with test systems such as OMICRON Test Universe (CMC, CMControl) or Doble F6150.

• Knowledge of relevant standards including IEC 61850, IEC 60255, VDE 0101/0102, and ENTSO‑E guidelines.

• Experience in producing technical documentation with AutoCAD, EPLAN, or MS Visio.

• Strong understanding of protection engineering, network operation procedures, and secondary systems.

• Willingness to travel occasionally to test facilities, client locations, or construction sites.

• Proficiency in both German and English.
