Engineer – Secondary Systems, Substations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Managing tenders from transmission system operators (TSOs) related to protection and secondary systems in high and extra-high-voltage substations.

• Designing protection systems for 220 kV and 380 kV installations in compliance with planning and operational safety standards.

• Formulating protection concepts including distance protection, differential protection, and breaker-failure logic.

• Configuring protection relays such as Siemens SIPROTEC (e.g., 7SA6, 7SD6) and ensuring consistent device settings.

• Conducting technical discussions with TSOs, planners, customers, and internal specialist departments.

• Preparing protection diagrams, logic matrices, deviation lists, and technical specifications.

• Developing and reviewing FAT and SAT test plans for factory and commissioning tests.

• Assisting with protection tests, fault analysis, and commissioning support.

⛳️ Requirements

• A degree in electrical engineering, industrial engineering, or an equivalent qualification.

• Expertise in protection relays such as Siemens SIPROTEC (7SA6, 7SD6, 7UT6, 7SJ6), ABB RELION, or GE MiCOM, both theoretically and practically.

• Experience with planning software such as ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, or PSS/E.

• Ability to parameterize protection devices using DIGSI 5/6 or ABB PCM600.

• Knowledge of relevant standards including IEC 61850, IEC 60255, VDE 0101/0102.

• Experience in preparing technical documentation using AutoCAD, EPLAN, or MS Visio.

• Strong understanding of protection engineering, network operation procedures, and secondary systems.

• Willingness to travel occasionally to test facilities, customer locations, or construction sites.

• Proficiency in both German and English.
