This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado, +1 more state.
• Define, oversee, and implement Rowan’s multi-year energy strategy for new markets, ensuring it aligns with company growth objectives, customer needs, and sustainability commitments.
• Establish priorities across the organization and guide decisions related to market entry and expansion within power sectors.
• Shape the company's strategic direction by incorporating energy availability, grid limitations, alternative power solutions, and regulatory factors into site selection and investment choices.
• Create, structure, and execute intricate energy solutions to support large-scale data center campuses, including grid interconnections, transmission enhancements, on-site generation, storage, and procurement of renewable energy.
• Lead negotiations with utilities, transmission system operators (TSOs), regulators, and energy partners concerning interconnections, electrical services, and long-term energy agreements.
• Design innovative, market-specific solutions to accelerate timelines and alleviate constraints in capacity-limited or heavily regulated contexts.
• Serve as Rowan’s senior energy representative in interactions with utility executives, regulators, government agencies, and significant customers.
• Foster strong partnerships across Development, Real Estate, Finance, Legal, Sustainability, and Business Development teams to ensure cohesive decision-making and execution.
• Create and manage investment cases for energy infrastructure and commercial agreements; ensure alignment with executive leadership and the Board on risk, returns, and execution strategies.
• Anticipate risks related to regulations, markets, and grid conditions; devise mitigation strategies for elements outside Rowan’s direct influence.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area (engineering, business, economics, construction management, real estate, or a similar discipline).
• An MBA or advanced degree is preferred.
• Over 15 years of experience in developing power infrastructure for large, energy-demanding assets (e.g., data centers, industrial facilities, infrastructure projects).
• Proven experience in negotiating interconnection, transmission, and long-term power agreements with utilities, TSOs, or renewable energy developers.
• A strong record of leading multi-team, multi-year projects that have a significant impact on the business.
• Extensive technical knowledge of transmission and distribution infrastructure, alongside a robust understanding of power market structures and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience working with hyperscale or large enterprise data center clients is highly preferred.
• Excellent executive communication skills, including the ability to clearly convey complex topics to senior leadership and Boards.
• Strong strategic judgment, comfort with uncertainty, and the ability to function effectively in fast-paced, highly collaborative environments.
