This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Provide support services that align with the overall operational goals aimed at the protection, conservation, and recovery of anadromous fish, marine fish, invertebrates, and their habitats.
• Assist the Government in fulfilling its responsibilities under the statutes and mandates of the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and the Magnuson–Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (MSA).
• Aid NMFS in reviewing and providing technical comments on biological assessments.
• Evaluate and analyze the impacts of proposed actions, conservation measures, and mitigation activities on ESA-listed species.
• Formulate recommendations to minimize negative effects on ESA-listed fish and their habitats, as well as Essential Fish Habitat (EFH) related to proposed initiatives.
• Engage in internal and external meetings that support the goals of the consultation process.
• Support NMFS in the preparation and review of section 7 consultation letters, biological opinions, incidental take permits, transmittal memos, briefing documents, National Environmental Policy Act documents, and other necessary written materials.
• Maintain administrative records according to CCO filing procedures.
• Bachelor’s degree accompanied by 10 years or more of relevant experience.
• Extensive knowledge of anadromous salmonid biology and ecology in the Klamath River, particularly regarding ESA conservation programs.
• Proficient understanding of the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (MSA).
• Proficient in word-processing software for the development of written documents.
• Proven ability in strong technical writing skills.
• Experience in managing complex impact analyses related to contentious water operations.
• Knowledge and expertise in NOAA Fisheries policies and programs, along with experience in planning and Federal financial management and operations.
