This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of the complete lifecycle of Code for America's AI Acceptable Use Policy: crafting foundational policy from scratch, promoting it throughout the organization, driving adoption, and continuously revising it as tools, risks, and best practices change.
• Provide guidance on the employee-related implications of AI tool implementation, including acceptable use limits, monitoring practices, and policy aspects that intersect with employment law and workforce relations — collaborating closely with People Operations and Legal.
• Create governance frameworks and policy documents in clear, plain-language formats — ensuring comprehension and actionability for staff at all levels and across all disciplines, beyond just compliance and IT teams.
• Act as an internal consultant for teams in the preliminary phases of exploring, piloting, or enhancing AI-assisted workflows — encouraging experimentation with a "yes, and here's how to do it safely" approach.
• Document and disseminate insights from team-level pilots to enhance organizational knowledge and identify reproducible patterns.
• Serve as a bridge between IT/security and non-technical program and operations teams, translating between contexts and advocating for staff needs during governance or tooling decision-making.
• Collaborate with People Operations and Legal to develop and continuously review AI-related employment policies, including those governing employee conduct, monitoring, and the use of AI tools in the workplace — ensuring governance frameworks are informed by employee relations considerations.
• Lead change management efforts for AI-related transitions — helping staff grasp not only what is changing but why it matters for their roles.
• Work closely with Security Engineering to ensure AI governance and enablement initiatives align with the organization's overall security strategy.
• Partner with compliance stakeholders and legal/People Operations as necessary to evaluate AI tool risks, data privacy concerns, and alignment with organizational policies — including implications for employee relations and workforce obligations.
• Keep track of the evolving AI governance and security landscape, proactively suggesting policy and control updates as new tools, risks, or regulations arise.
• Maintain the vendor inventory, conduct lightweight third-party security assessments on new tools, and escalate higher-risk evaluations to the Security Engineering team.
• Coordinate security awareness initiatives, including staff training and onboarding modules.
• Design, launch, and continuously enhance a range of AI enablement resources: training sessions, onboarding guides, office hours, self-service resource hubs, and practical playbooks.
• Facilitate workshops and learning sessions for staff at all levels and disciplines, explaining complex technical concepts in accessible, jargon-free language.

• Other duties as assigned.
• 5–8+ years of experience in a role encompassing IT, compliance, security, learning & development, or organizational change — preferably with exposure to multiple areas.
• Proven experience in drafting, publishing, and managing the lifecycle of acceptable use, technology, or information security policies — including engaging non-technical audiences and driving organization-wide adoption.
• Demonstrated experience with AI tools (such as large language models, AI-assisted productivity tools) and strong knowledge of emerging best practices in AI governance, data privacy, and acceptable use.
