This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alaska, +30 more states.
• Support the creation of educational and training materials.
• Organize and facilitate training and development for Health Information Management staff, Banner staff, and healthcare providers.
• Deliver technical training for staff on the information systems related to the medical records database.
• Develop and maintain training materials, tools, and documentation for the department.
• Conduct skill assessments for new hires, department-specific orientations, and initial training for tasks/functions.
• Provide ongoing education and annual updates on regulatory requirements.
• Evaluate skills, competencies, and training needs for new employees, existing staff, and management.
• Plan and oversee orientation programs.
• Create and update education calendars and records for continuing education and orientations.
• Offer on-site support to trainees and serve as a resource for staff knowledge.
• Address issues with HIMS electronic applications and review clinical documentation for accurate coding, reimbursement, and compliance.
• Collaborate with regional and system-wide teams to develop HIMS educational resources and encourage standardized practices.
• Gather data, compile reports and visuals, and present results at committee and departmental meetings.
• Coordinate and execute clinical pertinence and interdisciplinary chart reviews.
• Stay current with Health Information Management Systems knowledge and research regulatory guidelines.
• Work autonomously with general supervision while supporting HIMS, Financial Services, Clinical Documentation, and integrated healthcare teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, healthcare administration, or a related field.
• Advanced training in Health Information Management standards and systems along with adult learning principles.
• A minimum of three years of experience in healthcare information management.
• Certification in ambulatory coding (CPC or CCS-P) is required.
• Preferred certifications for ambulatory coding include RHIA, RHIT, or CCS.
• Active RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification is necessary for acute care coding environments.
• Up-to-date knowledge of business and/or healthcare practices.
• Understanding of regulatory standards for medical record documentation and applicable Medical Staff Rules and Regulations.
• Proven skills in education and training.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and laws/regulations concerning medical records.
• Strong interpersonal and instructional abilities.
• Excellent written, verbal, and customer service communication skills.
• Capability to conduct educational needs assessments and teach effectively across various comprehension levels.
• Proficient in standard office and presentation software.
• Advanced knowledge and experience with healthcare applications and hardware is essential.
• Previous experience in training/teaching and customer service education is preferred.
• Creativity and understanding of adult learning principles are advantageous.
