Director Software Engineer – Hands-On

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Spearhead the design and development of vital, technically intricate services within our ecosystem, concentrating on sustainable, scalable solutions for the long term.

• Establish and refine the technical vision for various teams, ensuring architectural coherence, system resilience, and alignment with product objectives.

• Collaborate with cross-functional leaders (Product, Design, Data, etc.) to prioritize and implement initiatives that foster business growth and enhance user experience.

• Mentor and empower engineering managers and technical leads, cultivating a high-performing culture centered on continuous improvement and technical excellence.

• Supervise integration efforts with third-party APIs and tools, guaranteeing seamless and secure interconnectivity between systems.

• Direct the modernization of legacy systems to improve scalability, performance, and the developer experience.

• Advocate for operational excellence through best practices in monitoring, incident management, and system reliability.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in managing and mentoring multiple high-performing engineering teams in a dynamic, product-oriented environment.

• Strong architectural expertise, evidenced by a history of designing and scaling complex, distributed systems and modern web applications.

• Extensive experience with cloud platforms like AWS or GCP and a solid grasp of cloud-native architecture patterns.

• Skilled in designing RESTful APIs and leading cross-functional collaboration between frontend and backend teams.

• Strong foundation in computer science principles, encompassing data structures, algorithms, and systems design.

• Proficient with relational and non-relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, DynamoDB), along with an understanding of best practices for scaling and performance.

• Capable of establishing a clear technical vision, effectively communicating it across teams, and ensuring alignment with business strategy.

• Proficient in one or more backend programming languages (e.g., Java, Ruby, Go, C++); experience with Golang is a plus.

• Excellent communicator with the ability to influence across functions and geographical locations, fluent in English, and experienced in leading globally distributed teams.
