
Director, Regulatory Compliance – Export Controls

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Direct and oversee all regulatory licensing and compliance initiatives for the organization’s satellite operations, which include NOAA remote sensing authorizations and FCC/ITU spectrum, orbital, and satellite licensing obligations.
• Spearhead and enhance the organization's Export Control & Trade Compliance program, ensuring adherence to EAR, ITAR, and other relevant U.S. and international regulations.
• Create and sustain export classifications (ECCN/USML), licensing strategies, Technology Control Plans (TCPs), and export authorization procedures for spacecraft, payloads, software, technical data, and associated technologies.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Mission Operations, Security, IT, and Product teams to embed compliance requirements throughout the product development lifecycle, from design to launch and operations.
• Act as the principal compliance advisor for international collaborations, supplier interactions, technology transfers, foreign national access, and global business endeavors.
• Manage regulatory compliance for spacecraft development, launch campaigns, mission operations, orbital debris mitigation, and other advancing space industry standards.
• Establish governance frameworks for controlled technologies, engineering environments, software repositories, technical data, and mission operations systems.
• Work in conjunction with Legal, Supply Chain, Business Development, and Program Management to ensure compliance requirements are included in contracts, supplier agreements, customer interactions, and strategic alliances.
• Provide insights on regulatory and compliance risks related to international business, mergers and acquisitions, strategic investments, and technology collaborations.
• Stay updated on emerging regulatory requirements and industry standards, advising leadership on business implications and ensuring ongoing organizational compliance.
• Facilitate training, develop policies and procedures, and act as the organization's subject matter expert on export controls, regulatory compliance, and responsible space operations.
• A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Aerospace, Physics, International Trade, Business, Law, or a related field.
• Over 8 years of experience in aerospace, defense, satellite, remote sensing, or similarly regulated sectors.
• Proven experience managing EAR and ITAR compliance programs.
• Experience in classifying hardware, software, and technical data according to U.S. export regulations.
• Background in developing and implementing Technology Control Plans and export compliance procedures.
• Experience supporting spacecraft, satellite, launch, Earth observation, or remote sensing initiatives.
• Familiarity with FCC licensing, orbital debris regulations, space safety protocols, and launch-related compliance tasks.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, operations, legal, security, and executive leadership teams.
