This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Supervise a team of 8-12 employees (currently nine direct reports), creating a safe and inviting team environment while promoting employee growth and development through regular coaching, guidance, and feedback.
• Conduct regular one-on-one supervision to provide feedback, discuss performance and professional growth, and address any concerns—coaching team members on their development instead of directing day-to-day project tasks.
• Potentially mentor and support senior managers (M3s) in their supervision of others, exemplifying strong supervisory practices and enhancing their confidence and skills as leaders.
• Set and monitor team goals, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring they align with the strategic objectives of the organization and department.
• Assess performance ratings, recommend compensation (merit increases) for direct reports, and manage performance issues when necessary.
• Perform regular performance evaluations, deliver timely and constructive feedback, and guide team members toward success.
• Identify and address performance issues directly and thoughtfully, developing and implementing action plans and performance improvement strategies as needed.
• Promote staff development through personalized support and guidance related to professional development activities, project work, training opportunities, and continuing education.
• Acknowledge and celebrate achievements and exceptional performance to inspire and motivate the team.
• Cultivate a cohesive, team-oriented culture by identifying common priorities, collaborating to achieve them, celebrating successes, and adjusting strategies when necessary—rather than operating as a collection of individual efforts.
• Build trust and buy-in through a relational and collaborative leadership style; assist team members in understanding the rationale behind decisions rather than relying solely on authority.
• Develop a positive, supportive, and inclusive work environment that prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as employee well-being and work-life balance.
• Encourage mentorship, knowledge sharing, and best practices among team members in collaboration with Project Directors.
• Manage conflict fairly and effectively, implementing resolution strategies that maintain a positive and productive work atmosphere.
• Help establish a more formal and consistent framework for people management at the departmental level, including monitoring and managing performance, celebrating achievements, and measuring results.
• Propose, design, and advocate for new systems and processes with an entrepreneurial mindset, engaging colleagues and operationalizing practices for consistency across the department.
• Continuously evaluate the department’s structure, processes, and performance to identify and implement opportunities for improvement.
• 5+ years of professional experience, including managing people and/or leading teams toward shared outcomes.
• Proven management experience required; formal supervision experience (serving as the recognized supervisor of one or more individuals) is strongly preferred.
• Candidates lacking formal supervision experience must demonstrate clear evidence of leading, coaching, and developing individuals.
• Bachelor’s degree in project management, business, public health, social work, mental health, substance use disorder, or a related field.
• Adaptive leadership and coaching skills—the ability to customize your management approach for each individual and support their growth without being involved in the day-to-day of their work.
• A well-defined management philosophy, with concrete experience in coaching individuals to success and addressing performance issues or corrective actions with fairness and consideration.
• Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to gain trust, foster buy-in, and influence in a matrixed environment without direct authority over the work.
• Demonstrated leadership knowledge, skills, and abilities such as emotional intelligence, delegation, coaching, strategic thinking, and a focus on the future.
• An entrepreneurial and collaborative mindset—enthusiasm for building systems, championing them, and engaging colleagues.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance.
• 403(b) retirement plan with employer contributions after one year of service.
• Paid time off, including vacation, sick, personal, floating holiday, bereavement, and observed federal holidays.
• Parental support benefits, including reimbursement for adoption, fertility, and surrogacy, as well as two weeks of paid parental leave.
• Free unlimited access to Relias professional development courses.
• Annual professional development and tuition reimbursement funds.
