This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Act as Avid’s leading technical authority on ASC 606 while maintaining proficiency in legacy ASC 605 for comparative analysis during the transition period and contract modifications.
• Create and oversee technical accounting position papers, white papers, and contract review memos that illustrate the company’s application of GAAP to intricate arrangements.
• Assess new and non-standard customer contracts to identify performance obligations, variable consideration, SSP allocations, distinctions between license and service, as well as principal/agent considerations.
• Keep abreast of FASB ASU updates, SEC staff guidance (e.g., SAB 104, Topic 13), and emerging practices to proactively evaluate their impact on Avid’s revenue model.
• Facilitate technical accounting discussions with external auditors, ensuring that positions are defensible, well-documented, and applied consistently.
• Oversee the monthly and quarterly revenue close process from start to finish—ranging from journal entry reviews to final flux analysis—ensuring completion is timely and accurate within close deadlines.
• Ensure the integrity of transaction data and configurations in RevPro (the company’s revenue management system), guaranteeing proper allocation and recognition schedules across all contract types.
• Prepare and review revenue-related disclosures for SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q), including revenue disaggregation, contract balances (deferred revenue, unbilled AR), remaining performance obligations (RPO), and significant judgments.
• Develop and sustain effective month-end analytical review procedures that quickly identify anomalies for further examination.
• Serve as a consistent resource for the Deal Desk and Sales teams during contract negotiations, providing immediate guidance on how proposed terms influence revenue recognition.
• Educate Sales, Customer Success, and Legal teams on ASC 606 principles using clear, non-technical language to foster a compliance culture without hindering deal velocity.
• Maintain a repository of pre-approved contract language and term structures that simplify the review process for recurring transaction types.
• Manage the design, documentation, and operating effectiveness of key revenue-related internal controls under SOX, including those for contract review, system configuration, and journal entry.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Revenue Managers and Revenue Accountants, establishing clear performance expectations and nurturing a culture of precision, learning, and accountability.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA license is mandatory.
• Over 8 years of progressive accounting experience, combining a significant blend of public accounting (Big 4 or regional firm) and industry roles in publicly traded companies.
• In-depth, hands-on knowledge of ASC 606, including multi-element/multiple performance obligation arrangements, SSP estimation, variable consideration, licensing, and SaaS/subscription models.
• Familiarity with ASC 605 for analyzing legacy contracts and comparative period reporting.
• Proven experience in authoring technical accounting memos and presenting positions to external auditors.
• Experience in managing a revenue accounting close process at a publicly traded company, including the preparation of SEC disclosures.
• Experience with SOX controls—design, documentation, and testing of operating effectiveness.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; capable of simplifying complex GAAP issues for non-accountant audiences, including Sales, Legal, and C-suite executives.
