Director of Individual Giving

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Develop, design, and implement impactful multi-year strategies and plans for engaging and soliciting gift prospects.

• Foster strong connections with both new and existing donors and prospects.

• Nurture donors transitioning from annual contributions to major or planned gifts.

• Make direct solicitations for both global and local priorities to fulfill funding requirements.

• Discuss assets and identify opportunities for gifts of assets, planned gifts, and land trades.

• Incorporate blended gifts and asset donations into donor proposals.

• Maintain an expert understanding of the factors that influence philanthropic giving.

• Clearly communicate all global priorities of The Nature Conservancy and engage in campaigns at an advanced level.

• Utilize knowledge of the organizational budget to create proposal budgets.

• Advise donors on complex charitable options, such as private foundations, operating foundations, and Donor Advised Funds.

• Collaborate across chapters and programs while managing a referral network.

• Serve as a moves manager for chapter leadership when appropriate.

• Provide management for volunteers and/or trustees.

• Utilize the Conservancy’s donor database effectively.

• Travel frequently and on short notice; work extended hours and weekends as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of relevant experience.

• Proven experience in building and sustaining long-term relationships with major donors and corporations.

• Demonstrated experience in soliciting and securing major or planned gifts of $100,000 or more.

• Experience in managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors.

• Familiarity with fundraising principles and practices.

• Experience, coursework, or training in current and emerging trends in charitable giving, particularly in capital campaigns, major gifts, and planned giving.

• Multi-lingual skills and cross-cultural experience are valued.

• Capability to design and lead fundraising initiatives.

• Ability to assess an individual’s interests, capacity, and potential to assist the Conservancy in achieving its goals.

• Competence in educating and informing prospective and current donors about suitable giving vehicles.

• Proven ability to use listening skills, diplomacy, and tact to cultivate strong relationships and motivate donors and volunteers.

• Expert knowledge of complex charitable gift planning.

• Demonstrated ability to negotiate complex, high-profile, or sensitive agreements.

• Must satisfy The Nature Conservancy's background screening criteria.
