Director, Management Consulting – State & Local Government (HHS)

📋 Description

• Proactively oversee a portfolio of government client engagements at the state, local, and federal levels, along with consulting personnel, ensuring that all contractual objectives and deliverables are achieved.

• Collaborate with consultant teams to devise project strategies, facilitate communication, and manage risks across ongoing engagements with state health and human services agencies.

• Uphold quality standards of deliverables; guarantee exceptional engagement quality tailored to the unique challenges faced by state health and human services technology, such as infrastructure upgrades, operational effectiveness, and regulatory adherence.

• Cultivate strong relationships with executives within state health and human services departments, spanning agency, division, branch, and program levels.

• Establish and reinforce best practices throughout consulting engagements.

• Ensure adherence to contractual, regulatory, and internal policy requirements related to state programs and initiatives.

• Oversee the financial aspects of client engagements, ensuring that delivery conforms to approved financial guidelines.

• Act as a trusted advisor to health and human services agency personnel, including Medicaid Directors and other leadership figures in the sector.

• Position yourself as a thought leader in the state health and human services consulting arena while contributing to the enhancement of the Guidehouse brand.

• Utilize the firm's existing connections to strengthen client relationships and create new opportunities.

• Take the lead as the executive responsible for new business opportunities, focusing on system modernization, digital transformation, and operational enhancements, particularly in the Medicaid space.

• Provide expertise on client challenges, including funding strategies, technology integration, state and federal legislative engagement, reporting, provider oversight, and process optimization.

• Actively participate in and be accountable for the growth of the consulting practice at a rate exceeding $5M in new annual business for the firm.

• Directly manage consultants assigned to state and local government health and human services client engagements.

• Advocate for the career development, recruitment, and retention of consulting team members.

• Facilitate training and onboarding of new consultants, focusing on state health and human services-specific skills and knowledge.

• Contribute to fostering a positive and performance-oriented culture across the practice.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, ideally in public administration, business administration, public health, healthcare, or a related discipline.

• Over 10 years of cumulative experience, which includes industry, research, or consulting experience, excluding internships, part-time positions, co-ops, fellowships, and academic research.

• More than 10 years of experience in leadership roles within state health and human services agencies.

• Established strong relationships with leaders in health and human services agencies.

• Proven ability to lead new business initiatives and proposals.

• Exceptional program/project management capabilities with demonstrated experience in leading large, multi-disciplinary teams.

• Proven ability to build and maintain strong business relationships with senior executive clients in the state health and human services sector.

• Comprehensive leadership skills that provide strategic, analytical, and operational guidance to teams.
