This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.
• Act as the organization's foremost security leader and trusted advisor, undertaking many responsibilities typically associated with a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) while collaborating with executive leadership on security strategy and implementation.
• Create, execute, and uphold practical, appropriately sized security policies, standards, and best practices in partnership with developers as stakeholders.
• Oversee relationships with external vendors, consultants, and auditors.
• Direct all Corporate IT functions that support a completely remote global workforce.
• Manage identity and access management, endpoint management, collaboration platforms, SaaS applications, and the employee technology lifecycle, including onboarding, offboarding, and provisioning.
• Develop scalable IT processes that enhance employee productivity and ensure business continuity, while driving ongoing improvements in IT service delivery and employee experience.
• Propel decisions related to infrastructure, including VPN strategy, password management, tooling platform consolidation, and certificate lifecycle automation.
• Collaborate closely with Engineering and Platform teams to eliminate technical barriers and enhance operational efficiency, focusing on CI/CD, automation, and cloud platform reliability.
• Identify chances to utilize AI and automation to reduce manual processes and operational burdens across the organization.
• Assess and implement AI-enabled tools that boost productivity, support operations, engineering workflows, security monitoring, and business processes.
• Establish governance and best practices for the responsible use of AI within the organization.
• Work alongside the COO and leadership team to manage IT, infrastructure, security, and cloud-related budgets, including expenditures on AI tools.
• Monitor and enhance spending across cloud providers, SaaS platforms, security tools, and technology vendors.
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related area, or equivalent practical experience.
• Over 10 years of progressive experience in IT, infrastructure, security, cloud operations, or platform engineering roles.
• More than 5 years of leadership experience managing technology functions and cross-functional initiatives.
• Proven experience in leading security and compliance programs (SOC 2 required), incident response activities, and risk management initiatives, applying a pragmatic, risk-based approach.
• Experience overseeing IT operations for distributed or remote-first organizations.
• Background in managing technology budgets, vendor relationships, and optimizing cloud spending.
• Excellent judgment and ease with ambiguity: you make decisions with incomplete information, address conflict directly and unemotionally, and accomplish tasks without requiring follow-up.
