Director, Internal Audit

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Act as the 3rd Line owner tasked with providing independent assurance to the Board, Audit Committee, and senior management regarding the effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR).

• Oversee the complete execution of SOX testing, encompassing materiality, risk assessment, scoping, walkthroughs (TOD), and operating effectiveness (TOE), while managing and developing the Internal Audit team.

• Administer the Risk and Control Matrix (RACM) to accurately reflect the existing control environment.

• Supervise the sub-certification process and assist in the CEO/CFO certification procedure.

• Act as the primary Internal Audit contact for external auditors (PwC).

• Provide regular reports to senior leadership and the Audit Committee.

• Remain updated on SEC regulations, PCAOB standards, and developments within the COSO framework.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is mandatory.

• CPA, CIA, or a comparable professional certification is essential.

• A minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience in internal audit, public accounting, or financial controls, including at least 4 years managing SOX/ICFR programs.

• Proven experience in leading and developing audit teams, including coaching, performance management, and resource planning.

• Strong working knowledge of the COSO framework, PCAOB AS 2201, and SEC regulations related to ICFR for public companies.

• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the capability to present complex findings clearly to senior leadership and the Audit Committee.

• Strong project management abilities with the capacity to handle multiple priorities, tight deadlines, and cross-functional stakeholders simultaneously.
