This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Develop and oversee Symbotic’s global trade compliance strategy, governance, and program execution across all regions, ensuring alignment with business growth, operational priorities, and risk tolerance.
• Create and expand a global trade compliance program that includes an operating model, governance frameworks, escalation pathways, and a capability roadmap.
• Formulate and drive the enterprise strategy for global trade management systems, ensuring successful implementation, adoption, and ongoing optimization.
• Establish and enforce enterprise-wide policies, standards, and internal controls related to import/export compliance, covering tariff and export control classification valuation, country of origin, sanctions screening, and licensing.
• Ensure adherence to U.S. and international trade regulations as well as requirements from partner government agencies.
• Integrate trade compliance into ERP systems, workflows, data structures, and automation strategies to facilitate scalable and consistent execution.
• Incorporate trade compliance into supply chain execution, product development, and change management by collaborating with Production Control, Sourcing, Engineering, and Operations teams.
• Lead the export controls program, which includes denied/restricted party screening, sanctions compliance, end-use due diligence, and technology/data transfer controls.
• Oversee import and export operations, encompassing import entry processing, export transaction review and clearance, and management of regulatory requirements.
• Drive international trade strategy, including the use of preferential trade programs for duty optimization and tariff mitigation.
• Manage customs brokers, freight forwarders, and external partners, including performance management, standardization, and audit oversight.
• Ensure compliance in installation and service operations, which covers temporary imports, commissioning activities, spare parts flow, and repair/return (RMA) processes.
• Maintain the integrity of trade compliance data within enterprise systems, ensuring accurate classification, valuation, and country of origin information.
• Develop and lead internal audit and control programs, including risk assessments, documentation standards, corrective actions, and ongoing monitoring of global risk exposure.
• Define and track KPIs and performance metrics to assess compliance effectiveness, risk exposure, and operational impact.
• Promote continuous improvement in data quality, process efficiency, control effectiveness, and overall program scalability.
• Act as the main point of contact with government agencies, auditors, and regulatory bodies on a global scale.
• Serve as the executive escalation point for complex, high-risk, or time-sensitive trade compliance decisions, balancing regulatory requirements with business needs.
• Ensure global consistency in trade compliance standards while facilitating effective regional execution.
• Collaborate with executive leadership across Supply Chain, Procurement, Finance, Legal, IT, and Commercial teams to navigate trade-related risks, costs, and operational decisions.
• Design and implement training programs to enhance organizational awareness and capability in trade compliance.
• Build and lead a high-performing global trade compliance organization, promoting accountability, talent development, and a culture of continuous improvement.
• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, International Business, Logistics, Law, or a related field is required.
• A minimum of 12 years of experience in trade compliance, global trade operations, or international logistics, demonstrating increasing scope and responsibility.
• At least 5 years of experience in a leadership position with accountability for program oversight and decision-making.
• Extensive knowledge of U.S. and international trade regulations, including classification, country of origin, export controls, and licensing.
• Experience in supporting multi-site, project-based operations (preferably in automation, manufacturing, or capital equipment environments).
• Proven capability to design and scale trade compliance programs and operating models.
• Experience in implementing or managing trade compliance systems (e.g., SAP GTS, Oracle GTM, or similar).
