Director, Data Science/ML

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and implement the product data science strategy, pinpointing opportunities where machine learning and predictive analytics can significantly enhance customer experience and business results.

• Collaborate closely with Product, Growth, Engineering, and UX leadership to shape the product roadmap using data-driven insights and forward-looking machine learning capabilities.

• Serve as a thought leader on innovative data science methodologies (such as personalization, recommendation systems, causal inference, and generative AI) and their application to product challenges.

• Convert complex product issues into clear data science problems with defined success criteria.

• Manage the complete machine learning lifecycle for product applications: from problem framing and feature development to model training, deployment, monitoring, and iteration.

• Work alongside the Growth Data Science & Analytics team to synchronize experimentation, measurement, and modeling efforts into a unified data science ecosystem.

• Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing product data science team capable of delivering both strategic insights and production-level machine learning systems.

• Encourage a culture of innovation, experimentation, and continuous learning within the data science department.

• Establish career development pathways that attract and retain top-tier data science professionals.

• Collaborate with Analytics Engineering to ensure smooth model deployment and monitoring.

• Own and enhance personalization and recommendation systems that promote engagement and conversion throughout the customer journey.

• Create and implement solid experimentation frameworks that facilitate rapid and high-quality product testing and learning.

• Develop causal inference techniques to accurately assess the incrementality of product modifications.

• Ensure that models are observable, explainable when necessary, and continuously refined after launch.

• Establish product success metrics and measurement frameworks that align with business goals.

• Construct scalable dashboards and monitoring systems that offer real-time insights into product performance.

• Perform in-depth analyses of user behavior patterns to identify opportunities for product enhancement.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in data science, including at least 5 years in leadership positions managing data scientists or machine learning engineers.

• Demonstrated success in building and deploying machine learning models in production, particularly in the areas of personalization, recommendation systems, or predictive analytics.

• Extensive knowledge in experimentation and causal inference, which includes A/B testing, incrementality measurement, and maintaining statistical rigor.

• Strong product insight and business acumen—capable of identifying high-impact opportunities and converting them into data science projects.

• Experience in consumer technology, e-commerce, or marketplace sectors where personalization and user engagement are vital.

• Exceptional communication abilities—skilled at explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and influencing product direction.

• Practical technical expertise in Python, SQL, and contemporary machine learning frameworks (such as scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow).

• Familiarity with cloud-based data infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Snowflake) and machine learning operations tools (like MLflow, Airflow, Kubeflow).
