This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.
• Build and enhance the LATAM Communications function, focusing on team structure, governance, workflows, and scalable operational processes.
• Recruit, nurture, and mentor a high-performing communications team.
• Create annual and multi-year regional communications strategies that align with LATAM and global priorities.
• Develop cross-functional operating models collaborating with Programs, Advocacy, Finance, and Global Communications.
• Establish planning processes, performance metrics, and reporting frameworks to assess regional impact.
• Lead the creation and execution of strategic communications campaigns throughout Latin America, ensuring clear objectives, messaging architecture, and measurable results.
• Craft institutional narratives and storytelling that enhance Smile Train's reputation, mission visibility, and partner engagement.
• Oversee multi-channel communications across social media, digital platforms, newsletters, websites, and institutional assets.
• Direct regional public relations and external communications in priority markets.
• Foster a vibrant LATAM Partner Community that promotes engagement, recognition, and mission alignment.
• Develop partner-facing communications tools, branding materials, and storytelling frameworks.
• Support programmatic initiatives including Education & Training, advocacy priorities, and partner capacity-building.
• Enhance awareness, reduce stigma, and elevate comprehensive cleft care across the region.
• Lead internal LATAM communications to promote alignment, transparency, and culture.
• Collaborate with regional leadership to ensure cohesive executive and organizational messaging.
• Manage operational communications infrastructure, including translations, document governance, and asset management.
• Direct communications planning for regional events, medical congresses, partner gatherings, and strategic stakeholder engagements.
• Cultivate relationships with agencies, creative partners, translators, and external vendors, providing clear briefs, timelines, and quality standards.
• Oversee vendor budgets and deliverables, ensuring strategic alignment and quality.
• Serve as the primary LATAM communications liaison with Global Communications.
• Adapt global campaigns and priorities into culturally relevant regional implementations.
• Ensure that communications materials consistently meet both regional and global quality standards.
• Must be a resident of the Sao Paulo area.
• Recent experience in a Director-level Communications role is required.
• A Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations, Marketing, or a related field is necessary.
• A minimum of 15 years of progressive communications leadership experience is essential.
• Proven leadership capabilities in regional or global communications within complex, matrixed organizations.
• Demonstrated success in building or transforming communications functions, including governance, workflows, and scalable systems.
• Significant experience in nonprofit, NGO, public health, healthcare, or mission-driven organizations is required.
• Track record of successfully designing strategic communications campaigns across various channels and markets.
• Strong experience in executive communications and institutional storytelling.
• Demonstrated proficiency in managing agencies, vendors, and cross-functional teams.
• Professional fluency in English, Portuguese, and Spanish is mandatory.
