This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Identifies, assesses, develops, and secures new customers while expanding business with existing clients.
• Recognizes and supports the advancement of biopharmaceutical business opportunities, including new scientific and strategic partnerships, collaborations, licensing opportunities, joint ventures, and alliances.
• Establishes and implements suitable development strategies to align with business objectives.
• Engages with corporate contacts, facilitates communication, monitors milestones, and identifies opportunities to enhance these relationships.
• Negotiates and successfully finalizes contracts for KBI services with biopharmaceutical clients.
• Assists the Vice President of Business Development with designated activities.
• Identifies potential new clients, qualifies sales leads, cultivates client relationships, solicits RFPs, and manages the proposal process.
• Manages existing client relationships within accounts assigned by the VP of Business Development.
• Supports the VP of Business Development with key client accounts as necessary.
• Participates in trade shows and scientific meetings as directed, including coordinating preparation with KBI marketing, setup and teardown of booths, meeting with clients/prospects at the booth, and follow-up after events.
• Visits client sites to deliver presentations on KBI capabilities, explore opportunities, establish personal relationships, follow up on proposals, and advance the sales process towards closure.
• Coordinates client technical visits to KBI sites, including developing agendas, collaborating with KBI scientific staff, and arranging hospitality.
• Oversees the review of CDA and MSA with clients and KBI legal teams.
• Facilitates client Quality Audits and Quality Agreements in collaboration with KBI Quality.
• Maintains and updates the CRM with the status of opportunities.
• Keeps abreast of industry developments regarding all biopharmaceutical companies within the territory concerning potential process development and manufacturing opportunities.
• Collaborates with management and other business development personnel to ensure that initiatives and decisions are aligned and complementary.
• Adapts to change productively and handles other essential tasks as assigned.
• Technical Bachelor’s degree (science preferred).
• A minimum of 9 years’ experience in business development within the life sciences industry.
• Proven track record of success in technical business development (preferably in contract services or capital equipment within the life sciences sector).
• Experience in essential business development practices, including identifying suitable clients, establishing relationships with new prospects, scheduling in-person meetings, delivering presentations, uncovering opportunities, soliciting RFPs, providing proposals, receiving constructive feedback on proposals, addressing client objections, and closing contracts.
• Experience working on complex life science projects involving multiple internal personnel and client staff with relatively long lead times (3-6+ months).
• Experience in negotiating and finalizing agreements with corporate partners.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to cultivate positive internal and external working relationships in a team-oriented environment.
• Familiarity with biopharmaceutical manufacturing and regulatory requirements, or the capacity to quickly learn and comprehend these processes and requirements.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% or more for client site visits, meetings at KBI sites, and attendance at trade shows and scientific meetings.
