Director, AI Enablement

📋 Description

• Take full ownership of the execution of the AI Enablement Program, which includes facilitating working groups, managing the use case pipeline, tracking adoption, and reporting to executives.

• Promote AI literacy and responsible usage within a diverse workforce, tailoring approaches to meet employees where they are and enhancing capabilities without pressure.

• Develop and implement training and engagement initiatives that are tailored to various audience profiles and functional contexts.

• Oversee the use case intake process from submission to scoring, cross-functional review, and documentation of outcomes.

• Collaborate with external AI strategy and implementation partners to ensure a cohesive and non-overlapping delivery pipeline.

• Work alongside Cybersecurity to conduct security reviews of AI tools, establish access control requirements, manage audit logging, and implement risk response protocols.

• Partner with Legal and Compliance teams to address data privacy, intellectual property risks, material non-public information controls, and contractual obligations related to AI deployments.

• Coordinate with Data Engineering & Analytics to ensure alignment of AI tools with the enterprise data platform and manage data access across both regulated and non-regulated environments.

• Engage with Clinical Operations, Regulatory Affairs, and Medical teams to identify, prioritize, and advance AI use cases in trial and submission workflows.

• Collaborate with Finance, HR, Commercial, and General & Administrative leadership on the discovery and deployment of non-clinical use cases.

• Facilitate the AI Working Group, ensuring cross-functional accountability and structured discussions regarding tool assessments and program priorities.

• Act as the enterprise administrator for the AI and agent tool landscape, overseeing tool selection, lifecycle management, and the capability roadmap across LLM platforms, agentic workflows, productivity tools, and clinical AI applications.

• Assess new tools and agentic frameworks through the governance assessment pathway prior to deployment; maintain an up-to-date inventory of approved tools with current risk classifications.

• Manage vendor relationships, contract terms, and licensing decisions in collaboration with Finance, Legal, and Procurement.

• Stay informed about capability shifts within the agent ecosystem and proactively identify opportunities.

• Administer the AI Governance Framework, including the Approved Systems Registry, risk classification tiers, and assessment pathways for GxP and non-GxP.

• Ensure that AI deployments adhere to relevant regulatory, privacy, and data integrity standards, supporting audit readiness in GxP-adjacent environments.

• Adapt governance controls in response to changes in the tool landscape and regulatory environment.

• Define and take ownership of program success metrics, such as adoption rates, use case throughput, time-to-assessment, literacy baselines, and quantified efficiency improvements by function.

• Establish a regular reporting schedule to leadership and the Governance Committee, providing a clear narrative on program ROI and risk posture.

• Maintain a repository of use case outcomes to capture lessons learned and identify opportunities for replication across the organization.

• Benchmark Apogee’s AI maturity against clinical-stage biotech peers and industry best practices to prioritize program investments.


⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of progressive experience in digital strategy, enterprise technology, or AI program leadership; prior experience in a life sciences, biotech, or regulated healthcare organization is highly preferred.

• Proven ability to develop and implement AI or digital strategies within a matrixed, cross-functional setting.

• A successful history of establishing or operating AI governance, risk classification, or responsible AI frameworks.

• Strong cross-functional leadership skills: capable of earning trust and driving results across Cybersecurity, Legal, Clinical, and business functions without formal authority.

• Hands-on experience with enterprise AI platforms, LLM-based tools, and agentic frameworks, including policy administration and access controls.

• Excellent executive communication and presentation abilities; adept at advising senior leadership with clarity and precision.

• Demonstrated capability in change management across organizations with varying levels of adoption readiness.

• Direct experience in a clinical-stage or late-phase biotech or pharmaceutical environment, with familiarity regarding GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, Annex 11, or similar frameworks.

• Knowledge of agentic AI architectures and orchestration of multiple tools within enterprise environments.

• Background in consulting (Big 4 or strategy firm) with experience managing multi-stakeholder programs and coordinating with external delivery partners.

• Working knowledge of FDA AI/ML guidance, EU AI Act, or NIST AI RMF as they relate to enterprise or clinical AI deployment.
