DevSecOps Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Manage production environments with a focus on security, ensuring both availability and the identification of potential threats.

• Develop and uphold secure Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to facilitate platform scalability and consistency.

• Achieve successful outcomes in security audits through automated compliance assessments and thorough evidence gathering.

• Connect development, security, and operations to cultivate a strong DevSecOps culture within the broader Engineering department.

• Oversee essential AWS services (EKS, RDS, S3, Lambda) while prioritizing encryption, least-privilege access, and service reliability.

• Create and enhance strategies for monitoring system health and security incidents utilizing tools such as OpenSearch, Prometheus, and Grafana.

• Guarantee that all AWS environments comply with applicable security standards. Deploy and oversee "Policy as Code" using Terraform for automated audit readiness.

• Maintain configurations for automation tools, secure deployments, and vulnerability assessments. Collaborate with standardized SDLC tools to ensure consistent production delivery.

• Collaborate closely with teams and Software Engineers to validate that application deployments are effective, functioning as designed, and adhere to security standards.

• Offer leadership and direction on secure infrastructure practices to fellow Software Engineers throughout the organization.

• Address operational incidents as needed, striving to reduce unnecessary alerts and develop resilient systems that alleviate operational demands.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in a DevSecOps, SRE, or Cloud Engineering position, ideally within fintech or a strictly regulated sector.

• In-depth knowledge of AWS (particularly IAM, EKS, VPC, S3, RDS, and EC2).

• Strong comprehension of TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, and security tools (e.g., WAF, KMS, Shield).

• Extensive background with Docker and Kubernetes (EKS), including administration and deployment using Helm.

• Expertise in Terraform for managing intricate cloud environments.

• Experience in securing and optimizing PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MariaDB.

• Familiarity with GitLab CI, ArgoCD, or Atlantis.

• Proficient in Python or Bash for automation tasks.
