This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Develop and sustain demos, sample applications, reference architectures, tutorials, and technical tools that assist developers in understanding Tailscale's capabilities.
• Produce technical content aimed at developers, which includes blog posts, documentation, videos, presentations, workshops, livestreams, and conference sessions.
• Represent Tailscale at various events, conferences, meetups, community gatherings, and in developer-related discussions.
• Collaborate closely with engineering, product, marketing, support, and community teams to recognize developer challenges and convert that feedback into enhanced product experiences.
• Aid developers in grasping Tailscale’s primary connectivity product, along with newer product domains such as secure AI access, privileged access management, identity, infrastructure security, and developer tooling.
• Make contributions to open-source projects, examples, and integrations whenever appropriate.
• Engage in public technical discussions through GitHub issues, pull requests, community forums, social media, and other developer feedback channels.
• Help establish the vision for an exceptional developer experience at Tailscale, from initial contact to production usage.
• Solid software engineering background, with proven experience in building, debugging, and delivering real-world projects.
• Capability to produce clear and useful code samples, demos, tutorials, and technical content tailored for developer audiences.
• Profound curiosity about system operations, especially in areas such as networking, infrastructure, security, identity, cloud, open source, or developer tooling.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly and creatively.
• Experience addressing technical audiences, whether through conferences, meetups, livestreams, workshops, podcasts, videos, or internal engineering discussions.
• Comfortable working in public forums via GitHub issues, pull requests, community forums, social media, open-source projects, and developer feedback mechanisms.
• Strong developer empathy, emotional intelligence, and product awareness. You recognize friction points, understand their significance, and can transform those insights into improved documentation, APIs, examples, workflows, and product experiences.
• Ability to work collaboratively across engineering, product, marketing, support, community, and other technical stakeholders.
• Comfortable working autonomously, selecting high-impact projects, and seeing them through from conception to execution.
• Skilled at managing multiple workstreams and adhering to regular publication, event, or launch deadlines.
• At ease presenting on stage and on camera to developer audiences.
• Willingness to travel for events, conferences, and community interactions.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong software engineering principles, acquired through formal education, professional experience, open-source contributions, self-directed study, or ambitious personal projects.
• A history of building and explaining technical systems, which may include production software, developer tools, infrastructure projects, open-source contributions, home lab experiments, local AI setups, networking projects, or any other evidence of your thought process.
