This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Malaysia.
• Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and various other database engines, whether on-premise or in the cloud.
• Conduct routine health checks, maintenance, patching, and upgrades of databases.
• Oversee backup and recovery strategies to ensure compliance with RPO/RTO standards.
• Monitor database performance comprehensively, including CPU, memory, I/O, PLE, slow queries, locking, and indexing.
• Perform query optimization, implement indexing strategies, and fine-tune databases.
• Analyze slow-running queries, identify performance bottlenecks, and manage long-running processes.
• Manage and support high availability and disaster recovery solutions, such as SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Groups, Replication, Log Shipping, and MySQL Replication / InnoDB Cluster.
• Ensure effective failover, redundancy, and disaster recovery strategies are in place.
• Implement and uphold database access controls based on least privilege and role-based permissions.
• Conduct security audits, perform patch management, and remediate vulnerabilities.
• Ensure adherence to company policies and relevant regulatory requirements.
• Develop automation solutions for routine DBA tasks.
• Maintain monitoring alerts, jobs, and automated maintenance operations.
• Troubleshoot production issues, service outages, and performance-related incidents.
• Provide root cause analysis (RCA) and offer recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
• Participate in an on-call rotation as needed.
• Collaborate closely with SRE, DevOps, Developers, and Product Teams regarding database requirements.
• Support deployments, data patch requests, schema migrations, and release management activities.
• Ensure precise documentation is maintained, including DB standards, architecture diagrams, SOPs, and knowledge transfer materials.
• 5–10 years of experience in a comparable DBA position.
• Strong practical experience in the administration of SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
• Comprehensive understanding of database internals, query execution plans, indexing strategies, transaction management, and replication/HA/DR topologies.
• Experience with cloud database platforms such as AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure SQL, or GCP Cloud SQL is advantageous.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools, including SolarWinds DPA, PMM, pgAdmin, Grafana, CloudWatch, etc.
• Knowledge of Linux and Windows Server environments.
• Exposure to NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Redis, or Cassandra is beneficial.
• Experience in automation, DevOps, or SRE-related tasks is a plus.
