Data Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Create, develop, and deploy Generative AI functionalities that enhance tools for technical Q&A and data comprehension.

• Design workflows that are agentic (planning, tool utilization, retrieval, execution, verification) with quantifiable quality, reliability, and cost management.

• Construct evaluation frameworks for GenAI, including offline test collections, automated scoring systems, human review processes, regression testing, and production oversight.

• Provide production-ready services and pipelines (APIs, background tasks, data processing, configuration, release workflows) while adhering to strong engineering principles.

• Collaborate with product, engineering, and domain specialists to convert customer challenges into milestones, acceptance criteria, and defined success metrics.

• Enhance system quality via testing, observability, performance improvements (latency and scalability), and protective measures.

• Foster an engineering-focused culture through meticulous design documents, code evaluations, and pragmatic technical choices.

⛳️ Requirements

• 6–10+ years of applicable experience in applied data science and Generative AI/LLM product development, with significant accountability for production delivery.

• Proficient programming abilities in Python, complemented by modern engineering practices (testing, packaging, CI/CD, APIs, code evaluations).

• Established track record of delivering GenAI/LLM applications to production (beyond mere prototypes), addressing reliability and operational factors.

• Practical experience in constructing agents and utilizing agent frameworks (such as LangChain, Agno, or comparable tool-using agent stacks).

• Results-oriented and adept at managing ambiguous challenges from start to finish: defining scope, executing implementation, overseeing rollout, and iterating.

• Self-sufficient, autonomous, and proactive within a remote team; capable of taking ownership of a problem area and driving it to results with minimal supervision.

• Effective communicator: proficient at articulating trade-offs, writing clear documentation, and aligning stakeholders.

• Inquisitive and dedicated to keeping abreast of the latest advancements in Generative AI and agent frameworks, acknowledging the field's rapid evolution.
