This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.

📋 Description

• Oversee, organize, and facilitate the analysis of multi-source datasets gathered from SEFSC surveys, which include acoustic, video, environmental DNA, multibeam, and aerial imagery data.

• Collaborate with project partners to guarantee that data collection and sensor setups align with downstream analytical and AI/ML applications.

• Maintain an understanding of various data types and provide assistance with field data collection activities when necessary.

• Systematically organize and document datasets and metadata following established data management protocols.

• Conduct QA/QC on incoming datasets and assess their suitability for integration into advanced analytical workflows.

• Aid in data curation and storage, including the use of cloud-based data repositories.

• Assist in the preparation and archiving of datasets in compliance with government data standards.

• Design, test, and assess analytical workflows and models to enhance data processing efficiency.

• Support the annotation of datasets and the development of machine learning models, including the training and validation of classifiers and detection systems.

• Create data products that are appropriate for use by downstream scientific stakeholders (e.g., stock assessment scientists).

• Stay informed about SEFSC analytical needs and current workflows to ensure data science initiatives align with mission priorities.

• Engage in interdisciplinary working groups and collaborative research projects.

• Assist in proposal development, manuscript reviews, and scientific reporting activities.

• Take part in outreach and stakeholder engagement activities as necessary.

• Prepare for and attend scientific meetings, workshops, and symposia.


⛳️ Requirements

• Master’s degree in data science, computer science, marine biology, or a related field, OR a Bachelor’s degree with over 1 year of pertinent research experience.

• Demonstrated experience in applying machine learning, statistical analysis, or advanced analytical techniques.

• Proficient in programming languages such as Python or R.

• Experienced in working with large datasets and managing data workflows.

• Familiar with cloud computing platforms (e.g., Google Cloud Platform or similar).

• Knowledgeable in relational databases.

• Excellent written and oral communication abilities.

• Capable of working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

• Proficient in translating complex datasets into actionable scientific outputs.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

• Skilled in managing multiple datasets and analytical workflows concurrently.

• Effective in communicating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
