Data Science Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Provide technical guidance and architect comprehensive Machine Learning solutions for Afya's digital offerings.

• Define and spearhead the experimentation strategy along with advanced statistical analyses to enhance engagement, retention, and the effectiveness of product modifications.

• Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Generative AI, focusing on evaluation workflows, constructing Small Language Models (SLMs), and fine-tuning them to ensure safe responses that align with business goals.

• Impact the product roadmap and collaborate with other teams (AIOps, AI Engineering) by pinpointing data-driven opportunities and prototyping innovative AI solutions.

• Establish and advocate for coding best practices (Python), ensuring the quality and performance of production models.

• Mentor data scientists at various levels (Junior, Mid-level, Senior) on intricate technical issues.

• Effectively communicate and justify architectures, technical decisions, and the outcomes of complex models to both technical and executive stakeholders.

⛳️ Requirements

• Postgraduate degree (Master's or PhD) in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related domain.

• Advanced, demonstrated proficiency in Python and its key libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).

• In-depth understanding of statistics, experimental design (A/B testing), and causal inference.

• Extensive experience with traditional Machine Learning techniques (classification, regression, clustering, time series) and familiarity with Deep Learning.

• Significant experience in developing, fine-tuning, and deploying Generative AI solutions (particularly focusing on LLMs/SLMs).

• Mastery of the entire Data Science lifecycle (MLOps/LLMOps), covering architecture, evaluation, monitoring, and model observability.

• Experience in defining and implementing Feature Stores, including best practices for governance, versioning, and feature serving.

• Practical experience with MLflow for model orchestration and versioning.

• Proficiency with version control systems (Git) and an understanding of CI/CD methodologies.

• Advanced English proficiency (necessary for reading scientific literature and technical communication).

• Preferred: Practical experience with Databricks.

• Preferred: Experience with distributed processing (Spark).
