This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alaska, +2 more states.
• Collect and evaluate extensive datasets to uncover trends, patterns, and valuable insights.
• Develop visual representations and interactive graphics to complement databases.
• Ensure the precision and reliability of data utilized in reporting.
• Keep abreast of the most recent data analysis tools and methodologies, employing AI tools and techniques to improve data analysis and visualization.
• Communicate data findings, conclusions, and narratives in a clear and engaging manner.
• Contribute to the betterment of the community through impactful journalism.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in journalism, data science, or statistics, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
• A minimum of three years of experience in a newsroom environment.
• Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, Python, or R.
• Expertise in AI tools with demonstrated experience in data scraping and successful outcomes.
• Solid understanding of data visualization methodologies.
• Capability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
• Keen attention to detail with a strong commitment to accuracy.
• Excellent reporting skills, including the ability to extract information from individuals and public records.
• Strong writing abilities, along with a proven capacity to simplify complex issues.
• Ability to collaborate effectively, meet deadlines, and adapt to multiple tasks.
• Energetic, inquisitive, focused, and able to identify significant stories.
• This position requires a valid driver’s license, dependable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance mandated by state law.
