This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Evaluate and catalog existing legacy data within application data repositories, shared folders, and shared drives.
• Analyze the quality, completeness, and relevance of the data intended for migration.
• Identify and record data dependencies, redundancies, and inconsistencies.
• Work alongside stakeholders to comprehend data structures, relationships, and necessary formats for effective migration.
• Create a detailed data migration strategy that specifies the steps, timelines, and resource needs for the migration process.
• Recognize potential challenges and suggest solutions to alleviate risks associated with data migration.
• Interpret legacy APIs and other system integrations, and establish mapping between different systems.
• Prepare for comprehensive testing of the migrated data to guarantee accuracy, completeness, and seamless integration.
• Recommend validation reports and processes to document any discrepancies, collaborating closely with stakeholders to resolve issues.
• Partner with software engineers, database administrators, and development teams to ensure compatibility and coherence with the overall architecture.
• Maintain effective communication with project stakeholders to provide updates on the progress of migration planning and to gather feedback.
• Generate and maintain technical documentation concerning the planned data migration processes, procedures, and system configurations.
• Specify reports detailing migration progress, data quality metrics, and resolution of issues.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related discipline.
• Prior experience as a Database Engineer with proven expertise in data migration, especially with legacy systems and cloud environments.
• Proficiency in data migration tools and ETL processes (e.g., Talend, Informatica, SSIS, or similar).
• Strong understanding of database management systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Perl, SQL, PowerShell) for data transformation and automation.
