This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alaska, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, dependable, and highly available PostgreSQL databases along with the supporting data infrastructure.

• Take ownership of intricate data engineering projects from architecture to implementation, deployment, and long-term operational support.

• Create efficient relational data models tailored for transactional applications, integrations, reporting, and future scalability.

• Enhance database performance by optimizing query execution, indexing, analyzing execution plans, partitioning, and configuring servers.

• Resolve complex production issues related to databases, replication, storage, infrastructure, and application performance.

• Design and uphold high availability, backup solutions, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies.

• Develop and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines and data integration frameworks.

• Collaborate with software engineers to enhance application performance through schema design, ORM implementation, and database access methodologies.

• Act as the PostgreSQL and database technology expert across engineering teams.

• Assess and propose database technologies, storage solutions, and cloud services.

• Create cloud-native data solutions utilizing AWS services such as RDS, Lambda, S3, and EventBridge.

• Boost observability through monitoring, alerting, automation, and operational tools.

• Identify and mitigate technical debt within database architecture.

• Review changes in databases, migrations, and application designs.

• Provide guidance to engineering teams on database design, query optimization, and best practices for data access.

• Mentor Level I and II Data Engineers through pairing, design evaluations, code reviews, and technical guidance.

• Articulate technical decisions through design documents, architecture reviews, and cross-functional collaboration.

• Advocate for secure data governance, compliance, privacy, and responsible utilization of AI technologies.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.

• 4–7 years of professional experience in Data Engineering, Database Engineering, or Software Engineering with significant database responsibilities.

• Advanced expertise in PostgreSQL.

• Knowledge of software engineering principles applicable to data engineering initiatives.

• Robust understanding of relational database design, normalization, data modeling, and schema design.

• Experience in creating and supporting highly available, fault-tolerant production database environments.

• Background in building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines and data integration solutions.

• Professional experience with SQL and at least one programming language such as Python, C#, or Go.

• Familiarity with AWS services including RDS, Lambda, S3, EventBridge, IAM, and CloudWatch.

• Strong understanding of ORM technologies and their impact on database performance.

• Capability to troubleshoot complex issues across applications, databases, and cloud infrastructure.

• Solid understanding of software architecture and scalable application data platforms.

• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and make informed technical decisions with minimal oversight.

• Exceptional communication, collaboration, and mentoring abilities.

• Passion for continuous learning and enhancing engineering practices.

• Reliable, high-speed internet access.

• A dedicated, quiet workspace free from distractions.

• Capability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a computer.

• Workspace conducive to focused work and clear, quiet audio during scheduled hours.

• Must reside in and hold legal authorization to work in the United States.

• Not eligible for applicants from Alaska, California, Hawaii, or Washington D.C.

• Availability for core hours of 8 am–5 pm EST, Monday–Friday.
