Data Engineer – Database Migration

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.

📋 Description

• Analyze current Oracle schemas, tables, views, stored procedures, functions, indexes, and associated database objects.

• Assist in the migration of database structures and data from Oracle to Azure SQL.

• Identify compatibility discrepancies between Oracle and Azure SQL and suggest remediation strategies.

• Transform or refactor Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, stored procedures, functions, and views into equivalents compatible with Azure SQL.

• Facilitate source-to-target mapping, data profiling, and migration analysis.

• Conduct data validation, reconciliation, and quality assessments between Oracle and Azure SQL.

• Enhance migrated database objects for optimal performance, scalability, and maintainability.

• Collaborate with ETL / ADF engineers to ensure pipelines conform to the target data model.

• Document migration insights, conversion decisions, validation outcomes, and technical recommendations.

• Assist in testing, defect resolution, production migration, and post-migration stabilization activities.

• Resolve performance, compatibility, and data quality challenges throughout the migration lifecycle.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional experience with relational databases and data engineering projects.

• Extensive experience with SQL Server and/or Azure SQL environments.

• Strong hands-on experience with Oracle databases, including SQL and PL/SQL.

• Experience in migrating schemas, tables, views, stored procedures, functions, indexes, and related database objects.

• Capability to analyze and convert Oracle SQL / PL-SQL logic into equivalents compatible with Azure SQL.

• Solid understanding of relational database design principles.

• Experience with query optimization, indexing strategies, and performance tuning.

• Proficient in troubleshooting database compatibility and migration challenges.

• Experience in data profiling, source-to-target mapping, and migration analysis.

• Strong expertise in data validation, reconciliation, and migration testing.

• Experience in identifying and addressing data quality and consistency issues.

• Ability to support production migration and post-migration stabilization efforts.

• Advanced skills in Transact-SQL (T-SQL).

• Strong SQL development experience across Oracle and Microsoft SQL environments.

• Experience in optimizing complex queries, stored procedures, and database objects.

• Comprehensive understanding of scalability, maintainability, and database performance best practices.

• Familiarity with Azure SQL environments.

• Experience working collaboratively with ETL and Azure Data Factory (ADF) teams.

• Excellent documentation and communication skills.

• Ability to work cross-functionally with QA, architecture, engineering, and business stakeholders.
