Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, optimize, and oversee the daily data ingestion pipelines that handle calendar information for over 14 million listings.

• Fine-tune and scale our AWS RDS PostgreSQL and Aurora databases to accommodate extremely high-throughput read/write operations and multi-terabyte storage.

• Enhance background job orchestration to guarantee timely and efficient data processing.

• Create and implement robust ETL processes to incorporate new and complex data sources into our ecosystem.

• Work collaboratively with application engineers to make various versions and aggregations of our data readily accessible to the core application.

• Employ DevOps best practices to sustain and enhance our AWS infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code.

• Develop comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and observability tools to identify data bottlenecks before they affect the business.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in Data Engineering or Backend Engineering, particularly with large, high-velocity datasets.

• Extensive database knowledge: Advanced understanding of relational databases, especially PostgreSQL and AWS Aurora.

• Strong programming capabilities: Proficiency in Ruby and Ruby on Rails.

• Job Orchestration: Experience with background processing frameworks at scale (Resque, Sidekiq, Celery, or similar).

• DevOps & Cloud: Practical experience with AWS cloud services, infrastructure provisioning (Terraform/CloudFormation), and CI/CD pipelines.

• Data Modeling: Strong aptitude for designing data models that balance rapid ingestion with efficient application querying.

• Problem Solver: Proven ability to identify performance bottlenecks in complex distributed systems and implement effective solutions.
