This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Perform region-specific market analysis on electrical systems, focusing on labor availability for electrical trades, commodity trends for copper, aluminum, conduit, and switchgear, equipment lead times for long-lead items (including generators, switchgear, transformers, UPS, medium-voltage gear, and busway), and other cost-influencing factors.

• Keep comprehensive records of historical project expenses, encompassing labor, materials, and equipment.

• Examine historical data to uncover trends, patterns, and opportunities for cost savings.

• Create conceptual budgets for electrical components based on market insights and project parameters.

• Prepare precise estimates for labor, materials, and equipment, taking into account project complexity and geographical location.

• Generate cost variance reports at significant design milestones to monitor trends, guide stakeholder decisions, and identify opportunities for value engineering.

• Lead and assist in takeoffs using tools like Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, LiveCount, or comparable software.

• Collaborate with general contractors and trade partners to align project costs and ensure consistency in scope.

• Provide assistance with change order forensics and perform cost reconciliations with trade partners as necessary to confirm pricing accuracy.

• Conduct comprehensive constructability reviews focused on electrical, medium-voltage, low-voltage, communications, and fire alarm scopes to pinpoint potential challenges and design enhancements.

• Partner with project stakeholders to implement value-engineering strategies that enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

• Take part in general contractor and trade partner selection meetings, providing unbiased insights on firm qualifications, suitability, and cost competitiveness.


⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of estimating experience with a strong focus on electrical, medium-voltage, low-voltage, communications, and fire alarm scopes in mission-critical, data center, or other heavy industrial projects.

• Demonstrated capability to estimate projects with a total electrical contract value of $50M or more.

• Proficient in performing quantity takeoffs for electrical distribution and conduit/feeders, equipment (including generators and switchgear, UPS, etc.), medium-voltage distribution, site dry utilities, structured cabling/low-voltage, communications, and fire alarm systems.

• Expertise in estimating software (such as Accubid or similar) and Microsoft Excel.

• Strong understanding of electrical challenges specific to data centers, including critical power topologies, redundancy concepts, and the ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, and specifications.

• Knowledgeable about electrical equipment lead times and procurement strategies for long-lead items like generators, switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, and medium-voltage gear.

• Ability to work autonomously in a dynamic environment while collaborating effectively with the estimating team.

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related field, or equivalent estimating experience in lieu of a degree.
