This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.
• The Data Annotator will be involved in a Google-funded agricultural initiative, serving a dual role: assessing the quality of crop image annotations performed by the annotation team and overseeing the daily operations of the annotators to ensure consistent results and compliance with project timelines.
• Evaluate annotated crop images submitted by the annotators for precision, thoroughness, and uniformity.
• Confirm that detected issues such as pest infestations, diseases, nutrient deficiencies, and physical damage are correctly labeled according to the project's annotation guidelines and taxonomy.
• Ensure that images identified as problematic or approved by annotators meet the established quality criteria.
• Offer structured feedback to annotators regarding errors or inconsistencies noted during the review process.
• Organize periodic re-training sessions to ensure the team adheres to annotation standards.
• Facilitate daily check-in calls with the annotator team to communicate task assignments, address questions, and share updates on guidelines.
• Monitor each annotator’s daily output, including the number of images reviewed, tasks completed, and any challenges faced.
• Keep accurate logs and provide regular progress updates to the project team.
• PhD (any year) in Entomology or Plant Pathology from an accredited university or college.
• 1-3 years of experience as a Data Annotator, preferably with a background in image-based annotation projects, though not mandatory.
• Comprehensive understanding of crops, common plant diseases, pest identification, and agronomic terminology.
• Practical experience with image annotation, including tasks such as bounding boxes and classification.
• Basic technical skills to navigate digital platforms are required.
• Proven ability to manage a small team, track individual productivity, and maintain organized records of daily work output.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to conduct team calls, provide effective feedback, and collaborate with the project team.
• Access to a functional laptop and a reliable internet connection is mandatory.
