This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• The Cyber Security Engineer will play a vital role in SES Space & Defense's expanding Cyber Organization, contributing to program cybersecurity efforts across critical government and satellite communications sectors.
• This position is accountable for ensuring systems remain compliant, resilient, and prepared to adapt to changing customer and regulatory demands throughout the program's lifecycle.
• The ideal candidate will deliver hands-on support in cybersecurity engineering, vulnerability management, continuous monitoring, and certification initiatives while collaborating closely with program managers, systems engineers, and operational teams.
• Serving as a reliable technical resource, this individual will assist in embedding security within system design, implementation, and sustainment efforts from the initial phases of development.
• Ensure system adherence to the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) framework along with the relevant policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Provide practical cybersecurity support, guidance, and quality assurance for projects, programs, and team members.
• Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) regarding system certification and authorization processes.
• Evaluate customer-mandated security plans, which include CONOPS, OPSEC documentation, standard practices, and operational procedures.
• Collaborate with Program Management to guarantee compliance with established security plans and customer directives.
• Review, prepare, and sustain CMMC packages in line with NIST 800-171 and customer specifications.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• 2–4 years of experience in Information Assurance, Cybersecurity Systems, Vulnerability Management, Systems Auditing, Information Systems, Engineering Management, or Security Test and Evaluation.
• U.S. Citizenship with the capability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
• Experience in conducting Information System vulnerability scanning.
• Experience serving as an Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO).
• Ability to function effectively in dynamic environments involving DoD, military, civilian, and industry stakeholders.
• Capacity to work autonomously as well as within cross-functional teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the capability to brief senior leaders and executive personnel.
• Active DoD security clearance at the Secret level or higher is preferred.
• Familiarity with Tenable Nessus, SCTM, SCAP, and eMASS is preferred.
