CTO – AI-First Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Assume complete technical responsibility for the mobile application, web platform, backend services, and infrastructure.

• Evaluate the current architecture, codebase, engineering practices, and technical risks.

• Create and execute an AI-first software development process.

• Implement effective strategies for AI-assisted development, code review, automated testing, documentation, and quality assurance.

• Guarantee that AI-generated and AI-assisted code adheres to production standards for maintainability, security, reliability, and performance.

• Oversee the collaboration with the existing outsourced engineering agency.

• Assist the agency in adapting to the new development model or suggest a different team structure when necessary.

• Determine the right mix of AI agents, internal engineers, and external development partners.

• Enhance automated test coverage and confidence in release processes.

• Set engineering standards, technical governance, and automated quality checkpoints.

• Ensure reliable deployments, production stability, monitoring, and incident prevention.

• Directly contribute to architecture, technical problem-solving, code review, and implementation as needed.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience as a hands-on CTO, Head of Engineering, Principal Engineer, Staff Engineer, Engineering Lead, or senior Technical Lead.

• A solid software engineering foundation with the capability to thoroughly review production code and architecture.

• Recent hands-on participation in software development, architecture, or technical delivery.

• Practical and systematic experience with AI-assisted software development and coding agents.

• A clear understanding of where AI can enhance engineering productivity and where human review and technical oversight are still crucial.

• Experience in building or managing web, mobile, or subscription-based products.

• Familiarity with contemporary JavaScript or TypeScript ecosystems, preferably including React, React Native, Node.js, or similar technologies.

• Experience with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, monitoring, and automated testing.

• Experience collaborating with outsourced, distributed, or external engineering teams.

• Capability to evaluate an existing engineering setup and make practical decisions regarding architecture, team structure, tooling, and delivery processes.

• Proficient English communication skills for regular interactions with founders and external partners.

• A strong sense of ownership and ease in operating without a predefined engineering playbook.
