This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Offer subject matter expertise across the entire value chain of critical minerals and materials, encompassing upstream mining through to downstream manufacturing and circularity.

• Assist DOE CMEI in technical and programmatic initiatives related to mining, mineral production, processing, separation, refining, metallurgy, batteries, magnets, advanced materials, recycling, and circular economy strategies.

• Create or assess client deliverables, which include market and supply chain analyses, technical memos, landscape evaluations, program design contributions, stakeholder summaries, and briefings.

• Recognize and assess opportunities to enhance critical materials security through supply expansion, alternative sources, manufacturing efficiency, reuse, and recycling.

• Facilitate stakeholder engagement with industry, state entities, communities, laboratories, and other partners.

• Convert technical subjects into clear, actionable insights.

• Contribute to or evaluate fact sheets, case studies, website content, and outreach materials.

• Aid proposal and capture efforts by providing technical solutions, win themes, and rapid-turnaround inputs.

• Adjust time and workload according to project demands in an on-call capacity.

• Provide actionable, prompt, high-quality guidance for federal, state, local, and private sector clients.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, geology, metallurgical/materials engineering, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, earth sciences, or a comparable technical field.

• Over 10 years of proven experience in critical minerals and materials.

• Familiarity with one or more areas such as mining/mineral economics, mineral processing, separation/refining, metallurgy, battery materials, rare earths, recycling/circularity, manufacturing supply chains, or resource strategy.

• Strong comprehension of risks within the critical mineral supply chain and strategies for resilience.

• Knowledge of how critical minerals intersect with energy technology, manufacturing, and national security objectives.

• Experience in generating client-ready technical outputs like memos, reports, and briefings.

• Exceptional interpersonal skills.

• Comfort in collaborating within multidisciplinary teams and working closely with clients and stakeholders.

• Ability to effectively operate in an on-call capacity, adjusting time and workload based on project needs.

• Proficient data analysis skills using Excel and/or equivalent tools.

• Preferred experience in supporting federal programs, particularly DOE, or engagements within national labs/innovation ecosystems.

• Preferred background in techno-economic analysis, cost/market modeling, supply chain scenario analysis, circular economy program design, recycling system evaluations, sustainability in mining and materials processing, or permitting/regulatory contexts.

• Professional credentials such as PE, PG, SME credentials, CPG, PMP, or other relevant certifications are favored.
