📋 Description

• Generate innovative ideas — you'll have the opportunity to create impactful stories across various categories for a region that holds significant importance to many. We are looking for a candidate who can seamlessly switch between different story types in response to audience preferences. This requires a continual flow of ideas and a willingness to explore new approaches.

• Work independently — this remote position is built on trust, allowing you to manage an editorial calendar, adhere to deadlines, analyze metrics, and collaborate with the copy and photo teams in San Francisco.

• Maintain a strong network — a key aspect of this position is your existing connections that enable you to share compelling stories. We seek an individual who has been actively engaged in the community they cover, understands the cherished figures and locations, and knows which topics resonate with both locals and visitors.

• Deliver consistently — you will be expected to produce an average of two features each week. We are searching for someone who can engage the audience with each article and possess the foresight to ensure a lineup of exceptional content in advance.

⛳️ Requirements

• 3 to 4 years of pertinent experience in writing and editing at a publication or within a digital media setting.

• Residing in or near the North Coast of California, or in Sacramento, with a willingness to travel regularly to Northern California.

• Extensive knowledge of the region that transcends a single area of expertise.

• A strong passion for journalism and storytelling.

• Familiarity with the brand and voice of SFGATE.

• Inclusion of three distinct writing samples in your application is mandatory.
