This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Participate in land management initiatives throughout British Columbia and provide technical expertise to support conservation efforts.

• Analyze First Nations and provincial land use strategies to uncover opportunities for Indigenous-led stewardship and Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs).

• Prepare briefing documents, submissions, and responses for government and partner-led initiatives.

• Utilize a landscape-level perspective in planning recommendations, habitat connectivity, and maintaining ecosystem integrity.

• Assist in the precise counting of protected and conserved areas to contribute to BC’s 30x30 conservation goal.

• Foster and sustain relationships with First Nations partners.

• Engage in coalition meetings and collaborate with colleagues and partner organizations.

• Recognize opportunities for public involvement in conservation matters.

• Develop campaign content and promotional materials for social media, websites, and email communications.

• Manage media monitoring related to conservation topics.

• Organize and execute both in-person and digital campaign activities.

• Facilitate special projects and research initiatives.

• Identify funding opportunities and assist with funding proposals and reporting processes.

• Track expenditures and ensure adherence to budgetary constraints.


⛳️ Requirements

• Experience in engaging with land management processes in British Columbia, covering provincial and First Nations land use planning, forest landscape planning, and land and resource management planning.

• Understanding of land and freshwater ecosystems and biodiversity.

• Up-to-date knowledge of significant conservation opportunities and challenges within British Columbia.

• Proven experience in building relationships with Indigenous Nations, representatives, or governments.

• Proficiency in GIS, mapping, and spatial planning.

• Strong organizational and time management abilities.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Capability to shape messaging, influence stakeholders, and engage effectively with media.

• Skills in mentoring or coaching.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

• Over 5 years of experience in advocacy, campaigning, conservation, resource management and planning, or related fields.

• While post-secondary education in a relevant discipline may be beneficial, it is not a strict requirement.

• Experience with Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice practices is considered an asset.
