This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Perform site assessments and investigations as requested by the Social Security Administration (SSA).
• Carry out additional reviews/investigations deemed necessary by DRC.
• Create corrective action plans to help representative payees meet the requirements set by the SSA.
• Provide the SSA with a report for each completed review/investigation.
• Conduct an initial onsite evaluation of any organization starting to charge fees for its services as a representative payee, ensuring it is properly established according to SSA standards.
• Offer short-term technical assistance and referrals to clients, callers, and others, including Social Security disability beneficiaries with representative payees.
• Participate in community advocacy and leadership on behalf of DRC.
• Develop written materials and engage in outreach, education, and training for consumers, community groups, advocates, and others, especially those from historically underserved communities, regarding their rights as SSA beneficiaries and the responsibilities of their representative payee.
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); plus 3 years of relevant experience and/or training; an Associate’s Degree (AA) in a related field may substitute for 2 years of experience.
• Experience in conducting interviews with individuals who have disabilities, including cognitive or mental health disabilities, and gathering pertinent information from various sources, such as documents and witnesses.
• Experience that showcases attention to detail and a strong understanding of client record confidentiality.
• Bachelor’s Degree in a related area (Desirable).
• Familiarity with federal disability benefits programs (e.g., Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income), as well as housing, employment, or wage laws (Desirable).
• Experience in reviewing financial, disability-related benefits, medical records, or other clinical documentation (Desirable).
• Paid experience in conducting investigations, auditing, financial accounting, or advocating in social service, human service, community-based, public interest, or healthcare settings (Desirable).
• Proficiency with electronic case management systems (Desirable).
• Experience working with and/or sensitivity to individuals with disabilities and/or experience working with and/or sensitivity to individuals from multi-ethnic communities (Desirable).
• Life experience as a person with a disability or direct experience as a caregiver for a family member with a disability (Desirable).
