This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Observes seasoned underwriters to understand the company's and regional middle market risk appetite while gaining experience in fostering agency relationships.
• Consults with experienced underwriters to pose inquiries and deepen understanding of best practices in underwriting.
• Aids the underwriting team by performing tasks such as reviewing endorsements within authority limits and analyzing new and renewal accounts assigned.
• Under guidance, assesses basic middle market accounts for risk selection and pricing considerations within a limited authority framework.
• Evaluates exposure, company and regional risk appetite, account premiums and loss history, financial metrics, lines of business, pricing guidance, motor vehicle records, online information sources, premium audit reports, risk improvement data, and other pertinent information for policy underwriting.
• Ensures proper documentation is maintained for account files.
• Engages with agents to provide updates regarding accounts.
• Works alongside marketing representatives to learn about relationship building and delivering exceptional customer experiences, ensuring agents choose EMC as their preferred insurer.
• Participates in peer training sessions, corporate workshops, and educational courses to refine underwriting knowledge and skills.
• Bachelor’s degree, ideally in insurance or business administration, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Preferred insurance designations include AINS, AU, CIC, or CPCU.
• Familiarity with commercial insurance products and coverage options is preferred.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities with the ability to make informed decisions.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with others as well as work independently.
• Commitment to maintaining high standards of professional competence.
• Proficient in computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office and social media platforms.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
