Coding Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Conduct independent reviews, analyses, and resolutions of assigned front-end claims prior to transmission.

• Identify and rectify coding-related discrepancies to facilitate accurate and timely claim submissions.

• Achieve an average of 10 front-end holds per hour while ensuring at least 90% coding accuracy.

• Assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes along with the appropriate modifiers within the professional fee context.

• Review medical records and documentation to ascertain suitable service and diagnosis codes.

• Ensure that diagnosis codes adhere to local and national medical necessity guidelines.

• Utilize coding resources, payer guidelines, and reference materials to ensure accurate and compliant coding.

• Comply with HIPAA privacy and confidentiality standards.

• Stay updated on laws, regulations, payer policies, and industry standards.

• Engage in departmental meetings, one-on-ones, and mentorship sessions with the Coding Team Lead.

• Report client trends and coding inquiries to the Coding Team Lead.

• Fulfill and maintain CEU requirements.

• Execute other assigned responsibilities as needed.


⛳️ Requirements

• Active AAPC or AHIMA certification held for a minimum of 3 years.

• Strong understanding of CPT, ICD-10-CM, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and Medicare reimbursement guidelines.

• Familiarity with proper English grammar, usage, and standards for professional documentation.

• Ability to research and analyze data, draw logical conclusions, and resolve coding or documentation challenges.

• Capability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, laws, and regulations effectively.

• Proficiency in interpreting medical documentation, clinical terminology, and recorded procedures.

• Ability to exercise independent judgment in coding and resolving claims.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding protected health information.

• Previous experience in a medical billing environment with strict adherence to HIPAA compliance.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.

• Minimum of 3+ years of professional coding experience.
