Coding Coordinator – Inpatient

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Provide administrative assistance under the guidance of the Coding Director.

• Lead and coordinate administrative tasks, projects, and team members.

• Compile and summarize data to produce documents, reports, and high-level presentations.

• Gather, enter, and update departmental records and databases.

• Manage calendars, meeting schedules, and organize operational meetings.

• Coordinate departmental events, meetings, travel arrangements, and expense reimbursements.

• Submit invoices and oversee access and equipment requests.

• Maintain office supply inventory and reconcile supply orders along with vendor invoices.

• Assist with special projects as needed.

• Investigate registration issues, billing problems, and necessary billing edits.

• Collaborate with specialty departments, Admitting, and Patient Accounts to resolve issues.

• Monitor abstracting systems and identify account backlogs.

• Assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes to inpatient accounts.

• Stay updated with coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements.

• Raise concerns to the Coding Department Director when necessary.

• Attend meetings and educational conferences to maintain professional proficiency.


⛳️ Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.

• A minimum of an Associate degree in Health Information Management, completion of an AHIMA or AAPC Coding Certification program, or equivalent coding experience is required.

• RHIA, RHIT, or CCS from AHIMA, or CIC from AAPC is required.

• Prior office experience is necessary.

• Proficient computer skills are essential.

• At least 1 year of experience in ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS inpatient coding assignment is required.

• Experience with Microsoft Office applications is needed.

• Knowledge of medical terminology is required.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is essential.

• Understanding of current ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting is necessary.

• Familiarity with medical records content and management is required.

• Basic understanding of EMR, structured data, and database management is needed.

• Knowledge of health information laws, regulations, and patient confidentiality is crucial.

• Adherence to Department, Hospital, and Human Resource Policies is required.

• Preferred: Experience with Epic.

• Preferred: Familiarity with 3M-360 Computer Assisted Coding.

• Coder 1-level skills in ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS inpatient code assignment based on the BILH Coding exam are necessary.

• Vaccination against influenza is mandatory as a condition of employment.
