This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Carolina.

📋 Description

• Ensure the accuracy and thoroughness of clinical coding to facilitate appropriate reimbursement, maintain data integrity, and validate coded information.

• Perform regular coding audits and manage the continuous monitoring of coding accuracy.

• Provide ongoing feedback to the coding team.

• Develop and organize educational sessions for coding personnel regarding documentation and precise coding practices.

• Act as a resource on coding and documentation standards and guidelines across the organization.

• Create audit tools to assess the accuracy of clinical coding.

• Stay updated on coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements.

• Conduct trend analyses to detect patterns and inconsistencies in coding practices.

• Adhere to AHIMA Standards of Ethical Coding and official coding guidelines.

• Ensure safe patient care while complying with Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards.

• Foster professional growth and development through mandatory and continuing education, as well as skills competency.

• Support departmental goals and act as a preceptor, mentor, and resource for less experienced staff.

• Create compassionate, personalized, safe, and efficient experiences for patients and colleagues.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or GED is required.

• For inpatient coding: RHIT, RHIA, CCA, CCS, or CIC coding certification from AHIMA or AAPC is mandatory.

• For outpatient coding: RHIT, RHIA, or relevant coding certification from AHIMA or AAPC is required.

• A minimum of four (4) years of relevant hospital coding or auditing experience is necessary.

• Experience in coding/auditing within a level 1 trauma facility or academic teaching facility is highly preferred.

• Comprehensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding principles and guidelines is essential.

• Extensive understanding of 3M Coding applications and the resolution of coding edits is required.

• Familiarity with reimbursement systems and regulations, along with policies related to documentation, coding, and billing, is necessary.

• Proficient in database applications and spreadsheet design.

• Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.

• Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to provide appropriate care for the patient population served.

• Must exhibit knowledge of the principles of growth and development as they relate to various life cycles.
