This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Play an integral role in the precise coding and abstraction of medical records for billing and reimbursement purposes.

• Responsible for evaluating patient information, assigning the correct codes, and ensuring adherence to coding guidelines and regulations.

• Oversee the charge review and coding-related claim edit work queues assigned to you, ensuring timely and accurate capture of charges.

• Skillfully interpret the reasons behind charge errors and devise follow-up actions.

• Identify all billable services by analyzing all relevant data sources.

• Examine medical record documentation in both electronic health records and paper formats.

• Identify, enter, and post CPT-4 and ICD-10 codes into the electronic health record system.

• Ensure that all coded services comply with the relevant guidelines.

• Consult with healthcare providers as necessary to clarify any documentation within the records.

• Provide education on documentation improvement to enhance patient care quality.

• Train and mentor coding staff to effectively carry out their responsibilities while adhering to current coding policies and procedures.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 2 years of professional coding experience is required.

• Certification options include Certified Coding Associate (CCA) from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), Certified Coding Specialist - Physician-based (CCS-P) from AHIMA, Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), Certified Professional Coder (CPC®) from AAPC, Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) from AHIMA, Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) from AHIMA, Certified Professional Coder Apprentice (CPC-A) from AAPC, or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) from AHIMA.
