This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Accurately input ABS data (such as Surgeon name, procedure date, discharge disposition, admit diagnosis, POA status, etc.) with a minimum accuracy of 95%.
• Achieves or surpasses bill drop deadlines and accounts receivable expectations.
• Regularly oversees and manages accounts receivable to ensure the timely processing of pending, outdated, or problematic accounts at assigned locations in accordance with the 30-Day Bill Drop policy.
• Precisely reports principal diagnosis in alignment with the latest AHA Coding Clinic and ICD-10-CM guidelines, maintaining a 95% accuracy rate.
• Administers NCCI and OPPS edits in compliance with industry standards, adding modifiers to charges when necessary.
• Identifies and notifies the supervisor of recurring charge issues that can be resolved with the assistance of ancillary department managers.
• Generates suitable query selections based on clinical evidence documented in the patient medical record.
• Adheres to established Productivity Standards: Same Day Surgery: 6 accounts per hour; Observation: 5 accounts per hour; Emergency Room: 12 accounts per hour; Ancillary encounters: 30 accounts per hour.
• Meets or exceeds the anticipated DRG/APC accuracy rate of 95%, ensuring that diagnosis and procedural codes applied to accounts correspond with the correct DRG or APC assignments.
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
• CCS or CPC certification is mandatory.
• Outpatient Coder - Coding Certification is necessary.
• A minimum of three years of coding experience is preferred.
• Familiarity with Augusta Health’s systems, workflows, or organizational culture is advantageous.
• Strong written and oral communication skills along with interpersonal abilities are essential.
• Demonstrates proficiency in using computer applications and grouper software, Medicare edits, and all coding and abstracting tools currently utilized by HIM.
• Comprehensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes is required.
• Analytical skills are necessary for interpreting clinical data across all specialties to ensure accurate code assignment.
• Proficiency in abstracting chart data into the computer module is essential.
• Must be able to work independently, possess a willingness to learn, pay attention to detail, and exhibit strong critical thinking skills.
• High ethical standards are required due to the confidential nature of patient information.
