This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Wisconsin.
β’ Conduct complex, specialty-specific professional fee coding (CPT/HCPCS and ICD-10-CM) for physician services provided in both office and hospital environments, ensuring expert application of modifiers and E/M guidelines.
β’ Execute entry-level facility coding for straightforward outpatient encounters (e.g., diagnostic imaging, labs) and basic inpatient services (e.g., uncomplicated admissions, short stays) utilizing ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS, as applicable.
β’ Ensure all coding complies with official guidelines (e.g., from AAPC or AHIMA), federal regulations (CMS), and organizational compliance standards.
β’ Recognize the necessity for formal clinical queries to clarify documentation when needed for professional or facility records.
β’ Uphold high standards of accuracy and productivity relevant to the complexity of the assigned workload.
β’ May offer informal guidance to new coding staff regarding nuances in professional coding.
β’ Certification is required: Coding Certification issued by one of the following certifying bodies: American Academy of Coders (AAPC) or American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
β’ A High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
β’ Completion of an accredited medical coding or HIM program (or equivalent experience) is necessary.
β’ A minimum of 3-5 years of direct professional fee coding experience in a multi-specialty environment is required.
β’ Experience with professional procedural coding (e.g., surgical, interventional procedures) is preferred.
β’ Experience with Epic or comparable electronic health record systems is necessary.
β’ Proficient understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and pathophysiology.
β’ Advanced expertise in CPT/HCPCS and ICD-10-CM/PCS coding systems.
β’ Basic comprehension of facility payment methodologies (MS-DRGs) as they relate to simple encounters.
β’ Strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and capacity to switch contexts between different coding guidelines.
β’ Capability to work independently, manage a diverse workload, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
