Coder – Certified

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Missouri.

📋 Description

• Transform diagnoses and treatment procedures into ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes.

• Review and accurately code both office and hospital procedures for reimbursement purposes.

• Account for the coding and abstraction of patient encounters, which includes diagnostic and procedural information, reportable elements, and complications.

• Conduct research and analyze data requirements for reimbursement.

• Examine medical records to identify documentation deficiencies.

• Act as a resource and subject matter expert for other coding staff.

• Review and ensure that documentation substantiates diagnoses, procedures, and treatment outcomes.

• Audit clinical documentation and coded data to confirm services rendered for reimbursement and reporting accuracy.

• Assign codes for reimbursement, research, and regulatory compliance in accordance with coding guidelines and conventions.

• Provide coding consultation to care providers.

• Identify discrepancies, potential quality-of-care concerns, and billing issues.

• Research, analyze, recommend, and facilitate corrective action plans to mitigate future coding errors.

• Assist the lead or supervisor with orienting, training, and mentoring staff members.

• Uphold patient and employee privacy and confidentiality.

• Maintain consistent and predictable attendance.

• Support the Medical Center’s Mission/Vision/Philosophy.

• Manage special projects as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent qualification.

• AHIMA or AAPC credentials must be maintained.

• Familiarity with medical terminology and anatomy/physiology.

• Demonstrated professionalism, confidentiality, and organizational skills.

• Detail-oriented with the ability to self-manage multiple tasks.

• Self-motivated and capable of working within the hospital/clinic's policies, procedures, and practices.

• Ability to sit and stand intermittently for 8 to 10 hours each day.

• Proficiency in using standard office equipment.

• Capacity to maintain nearly 100% accuracy while adhering to deadlines.

• Manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing capabilities.

• Good eye/hand coordination and color perception.

• Ability to lift and/or carry up to 5 lbs.
