This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.
• Oversee the charge capture process for professional charges within the Munson system.
• Review and analyze medical records and encounter-form documentation.
• Identify principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures.
• Assign diagnostic codes, procedural codes, and modifiers in accordance with CMS and Munson coding guidelines.
• Conduct data entry and resolve discrepancies.
• Assess office-based electronic charges and encounter forms for completeness and accuracy.
• Analyze and interpret physician documentation of surgical procedures to assign and enter billing codes.
• Collaborate with the central billing team to ensure charges are coded and entered within two business days.
• Identify educational requirements and compliance issues, reporting them to the Director of the Central Billing Office.
• Address coding discrepancies related to coding and revenue capture.
• Act as an expert resource for physicians, office management staff, and central billing personnel.
• Investigate and respond to inquiries regarding coding and compliance.
• Ensure precise assignment of procedure codes and modifiers.
• Assist in the orientation and training of new employees.
• Undertake additional duties as assigned.
• Associate’s degree in Health Record Technology or a related healthcare field along with two years of professional coding experience.
• Alternatively, three years of professional coding experience with CPC, RHIT, or RHIA credentials already acquired.
• Or four to five years of professional coding experience, with CPC, RHIT, or RHIA credentials required within 18 months of employment.
• Must obtain CPC, RHIT, or RHIA credentials within 18 months where applicable.
• Proficiency in ICD-9/10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS modifier assignment.
• Familiarity with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and Munson coding guidelines.
• Capability to code and enter charges at a 95% accuracy rate.
• Competence in reviewing and interpreting physician documentation of surgical procedures.
• Ability to perform precise data entry and resolve coding discrepancies.
• Must comply with Munson Healthcare vaccination requirements for measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella, or demonstrate lab-confirmed immunity.
• Must receive a flu vaccine during the hiring year's flu season and annually thereafter unless granted an approved medical or religious exemption.
