COBOL Mainframe Application Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Evaluate architectural needs and provide design recommendations to the client.

• Assess the interconnections among mainframe applications.

• Analyze, design, develop, test, and implement code on a mainframe platform (z/OS) based on user requirements.

• Examine user needs and convert them into technical specifications and programming solutions.

• Offer technical support to resolve software issues.

• Develop and maintain thorough documentation for all development activities, including specifications, design documents, and user manuals.

• Support and mentor junior developers, imparting knowledge and best practices in mainframe development.

• Ensure effective change management for all requested modifications, fixes, and enhancements to production applications.

• Participation in a 24/7 on-call support rotation is mandatory.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 12 years of COBOL programming experience; expert in COBOL programming within an IBM z/OS mainframe environment.

• Proficient in Job Control Language (JCL).

• Familiarity with mainframe technologies such as IMS DB, CA7, DB2/SQL, JCL, MQ, VSAM, CICS, TSO, and FTP.

• Experience in production support, including break-fix support and implementing permanent solutions in a production setting.

• Knowledge of the development lifecycle, from development to system testing, user acceptance testing (UAT), and production deployment.

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
