This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.

📋 Description

• Conduct visual weld inspections adhering to AWS standards, customer specifications, and engineering drawings.

• Assess weld quality during both prototype and production phases.

• Decode welding symbols, blueprints, GD&T, and engineering specifications.

• Guarantee compliance with AWS D1.1, AWS D17.1, customer requirements, and internal protocols.

• Evaluate weld procedures (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ).

• Execute first article, in-process, and final acceptance inspections.

• Record inspection results and maintain precise quality documentation.

• Aid in root cause analysis, corrective measures, and continuous improvement efforts.

• Work collaboratively with Welding Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, Production, and Quality teams to address weld-related challenges.

• Support customer audits, internal audits, and supplier quality initiatives.

• Confirm the calibration status of inspection tools and uphold compliance with quality system standards.

• Assist with PPAP, FAIR, and necessary customer documentation.


⛳️ Requirements

• Active AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) certification.

• At least 5 years of experience in weld inspection within a manufacturing setting.

• Comprehensive understanding of GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), resistance welding, and robotic welding techniques.

• Capability to read and interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, and GD&T.

• Proficient in using precision inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and height gauges.

• Exceptional documentation and communication abilities.

• Skilled in Microsoft Office applications.

• Strong attention to detail and a dedication to quality.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work autonomously while collaborating with various departments.

• Professional communication skills with both internal teams and customers.

• A mindset geared toward continuous improvement and a passion for manufacturing excellence.

• Aerospace manufacturing experience is a plus.

• Experience in an AS9100 and/or NADCAP setting is preferred.

• Familiarity with AWS D17.1, AWS D1.1, ISO 9001, and aerospace quality standards is preferred.

• Experience with First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR) to AS9102 is preferred.

• Certifications in Non-Destructive Testing (VT, PT, MT, UT) are advantageous.

• Knowledge of metallurgy, weld discontinuities, and failure analysis is preferred.

• Experience in supporting customer audits from aerospace or defense OEMs is preferred.
