• Conduct an in-depth analysis of Ceph's code and architecture (RADOS, RGW, core storage) to enhance performance and scalability for production workloads.
• Profile, benchmark, and troubleshoot performance challenges at scale—across tens of petabytes and thousands of clients—to pinpoint architectural and operational constraints.
• Spearhead internal knowledge development and mentorship on Ceph expertise within the IaaS and Operations teams.
• Actively engage with the Ceph project by contributing patches, participating in design discussions, and shaping features critical to cloud provider scenarios (e.g., multi-AZ, RGW performance, tiering).
• Create and sustain internal build pipelines and necessary extensions, ensuring adherence to compliance and long-term maintainability.
• Collaborate with Platform Operations to improve observability, uphold stability, and expedite issue resolution in production clusters.
• Work alongside other teams to ensure the evolution of Ceph capabilities in alignment with upcoming roadmap initiatives such as GPU-aaS, Backup-aaS, Bare-metal-aaS, and DB-aaS.
• Demonstrated experience operating Ceph at scale (multi-petabyte, high-availability clusters) in production settings.
• Strong expertise in C++ development for system-level software, particularly within Ceph's core components.
• Comprehensive knowledge of performance tuning (OSD placement, CRUSH maps, BlueStore tuning, cache tiering, RGW optimization).
• Solid grasp of Linux systems engineering, networking, and storage I/O pathways.
• Proficient in Ansible (playbooks, roles, collections) for large-scale operations and Python for custom modules, Ceph tooling, and automation workflows.
• Practical experience with performance analysis tools (perf, flamegraphs, distributed tracing).
• Familiarity with Go for creating lightweight or performance-sensitive utilities is advantageous.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience and training.
• Understanding of cloud platforms such as OpenStack and their storage integrations.
